Ahmed Mohamed Abdelrahman Shehata
Professor of Urban and Environmental Design.
Graduated from the Department of Architectural engineering at Alexandria University in 1983. The Master’s degree was acquired from the Department of Architecture at Alazhar University in 1988. Ph.D. was acquired through a shared supervision program between the Alazhar University of Egypt and the Strathclyde University of the U.K.
The present post is Professor of Urban and Environmental Design in the Department of Islamic Architecture at Umm Al Qura University. Teaching undergraduates and postgraduates courses related to environmental design and computer-aided design in urban and architecture. Both teaching and research activities are focused on urban design, the built environment, pilgrimage activities, applications of GIS, and environmental simulation are the focus of his research interests.
Professor Ahmed has good experience in research management through acting as the Deputy Director of the Center of Excellence in pilgrimage Research at Umm Al-Qura University (CORE) and as a member of the standing committee of the postgraduate studies at Umm Al-Qura University. Moreover, he participated in developing many architectural and urban design projects with local and regional organizations as a certified public buildings design consultant. Providing consultation to Makkah Municipality in initiating Makkah Urban Observatory was a key project while directing the multi-billion dollar project of Umm Al-Qura University’s main campus master plan was the biggest project on the list.
